Mistakes in Brochure Layout Design

Irrespective of how good your offer, photos and service are – if the layout looks sloppy to most people they will not read more than a quick glance. Here are a few brochure layout mistakes that make people trash it (and how to fix them).

1) Too much text in one block

Big paragraphs feel like effort. Use language in fragments.

2) No clear reading order

If the eye cannot figure out where to begin, individuals simply back down. Keep it basic: Title on top, most important advantages following that, specifics next and end with a CTA. 3) Poor headline and front cover

Say no to “Welcome to…” covers because it takes up too much prime real estate. Start with a direct promise or benefit offer like “24-Hour Boiler Repairs All Over Cardiff” for example.

4) Inconsistent fonts and spacing

It looks unprofessional to combine so many fonts, sizes and alignments. Maintain 1–2 fonts, avoid absurd-spacing and use a consistent heading throughout your project, but nothing else.

5) Low-contrast text

Always avoid using light-grey text on a white background, or placing text directly over very busy images (because that could interfere with readability). If necessary, add a strong contrast or even wrap up text by using a solid colour solid block.

6) No obvious next step

The brochure will have failed if people like what they see and want to take action, but are not sure how. CTA – impossible to miss: phone number, webpage address (landing page), location and reason for urgency.

The correct layout should flow when you scan it. Remove complexity and keep it simple as you want to entice those who have only just heard of your business.
