The physical benefits are well documented.  The longest sustained period of exercise like a walk can have more long-term benefits and short sharp runs and lapped swims.  Another important consideration to take in about walking is that it is also excellent for your mental health.  In these difficult times mental wellbeing is just as important to focus on as physical well-being.

Also walking is a lot more fun!  You can get to see some incredible sights around the country and have  a social aspect if you join a rambling group or organisation.  You will need a bit of kit such as an all-weather jacket  and some decent walking shoes or boots.  a walking pole or even two walking poles wouldn’t go amiss either.  They are great at reducing the shock to the knees.
