What Causes Hair Loss?

This is the question that many people suffering from hair loss ask, as they are not sure of the cause of their loss of hair. Hair loss, or alopecia, as it is also known, is very common in both men and women and can occur for various reasons: genetics, there can be medical issues, and there can be various environmental factors all of which will play a part in causing hair loss. In some people, the hair loss is due to some type of medical condition and the only way to treat that condition is by taking medication or undergoing surgery. For others, the loss of their hair is due to a combination of two or more of those reasons.

Another common cause of hair thinning and baldness is alopecia areata. This occurs when hair growth is severely restricted in certain areas of the scalp. Alopecia areata causes the hair on the scalp to fall out and grow in a thinner pattern until the scalp is covered in an abnormal growth of hair or no hair at all. For many individuals, alopecia areata is a genetic disorder which means that if your parents suffer from this condition, you also have a good chance of developing it as well, but it can also be a symptom of acute stress.
