What is high risk data

All businesses will hold data of one form or another. This data may be on their staff or on their clients and customers. The type of data that is held will depend very much on the type of work that you do and the products and services that you offer. When data is being held it is important that the business has a process in place for safely destroying this data when it is no longer needed. This may involve looking at ways in which to delete data that is held on digital equipment as well as working with a Confidential shredding Bristol company such as Printwaste to have paper copies of data destroyed.

It is important that the data that you store is categorised in terms of the risk that it would pose to an individual if the data was to be compromised in one way or another. The types of data that would be classified as high risk could include some of the items that are classified as protected characteristics under the Equality Act. This may include gender reassignment and disabilities.

High risk data is data that could pose a physical, non-physical or material risk to an individual if it was to be compromised. This could mean individuals being treated differently or even put in situations where they may feel threatened and put in unsafe situations as a result of the data being leaked or stolen.
