The influence of Hippocrates.

Hippocrates is a major influence on the study of medicine. He was the first to argue that the healing and curing of the body deserved to have it’s own place in the academy. At the time, it sat within philosophy as a whole and was not seen as a separate discipline for study. Once this had been agreed it paved the way for medicine to become a profession.

His work itself with medicine is not precise. It also seems that others at the time have pulled together his work into something more substianal. However, what is clear is that he provided us with the basis for the Hippocratic oath and this is still in use today.

In ancient Greece the oath was taken by all physicians. They had to swear by a variety of high Gods that they would always stick to the ethical practices as laid down by Hippocrates. This oath was taken and expanded on in the Western world to form a bedrock against medical maleficence and to maintain the confidentiality of the patient.

Doctors and medical staff still hold this true today be it providing London Home Sti Kits like those from https://www.bexleysexualhealth.org/home_sti_kits/, conducting blood tests or general practitioner work.
